The Mendocino Theatre Company’s production of The Shaker Chair, written by Obie award-winning playwright, Adam Bock, and directed by Carter Sears, runs from April 3 through May 4. Featuring the outstanding talents of Ann Kyle-Brown, Michelle Deering, Allan Droyan, Monica Lancaster, Michael Rossetti, and Ann Woodhead, this vibrant and engaging production weighs the personal cost of both passivity and action.

The Shaker Chair explores the impulse in middle age to correct injustices after a lifetime of looking the other way. When one woman is challenged by her oldest friend to engage in animal rights activism, she’s forced to redefine her view of the world and her place within it. Heeding the simple call to “get up and do something,” she finds herself in hot water. She then must confront the moral dilemma of whether violent action against cruelty and environmental degradation is preferable to no action at all.
